PORSCHE 959 - THE BEST CAR OF THE DAKAR
The 959 was a Porsche's first supercar, a symbol of power and design, testament to the resilience and strength of German engineering. It was born out of Porsche's desire to compete in a mental Group B rally series. But development took longer than expected, which is fine if you are working on a masterpiece, and by the time the Porsche 959 was ready for production and homologation, Group B was cancelled. Porsche eventually decided to race 959 at the Paris-Dakar Rally. For the 1986 event, the Porsches finally got all the upgrades from the 959 project, including the active four-wheel drive system adjusted by the computer - revolutionary development for that time. This gave Porsche team a first and a second place at the Dakar finish, and even six place for a third supporting car.
